AWAKENING MOVIE SCREENING | MY REVIEW

So sometime ago, I blogged about a soon to be released Nigerian movie, Awakening, produced by Theresa Ananenu and directed by James Omokwe of Studio 84. I attended its private screening, held at the Silver bird Cinema (galleria) with a small gathering of about 30 to 35 people to review the director's cut specially prepared for the screening.

I got there just in the nick of time and the opening scene got me on hold from the word go! I cannot tell it all here as it is but all I can say is, it is not a movie for the very average mind or for the Nigerian who is expecting the same ol' same from "Nollywood". The story line is eerily dark and sophisticated yet traditional enough to plot it along the setting of what's Nigerian. We weren't shown the entire movie but the little I saw triggered off quite a barrage of thoughts and a great deal of curiosity from me.

There's never a movie without one or two flaws but as far as I'll like to state here, there were a few flaws but nothing profound enough to take away the shine from the brilliant story and beautiful interpretation of the roles by the cast.

The cast! That's another thing to talk about. The cut for the screening had only fast rising star actors OC Ukeje and Kehinde Bankole in it as well as a host of new faces that gave impeccable delivery of their respective roles. In all, I look forward to the première so I get to see the film in its entirety.

We expect it to be released sometime later this year. Awakening starrs, OC UKEJE | KEHINDE BANKOLE | BRYAN OKWARA | FEMI BRAINARD and ADEWALE AROLOYE
